The Internship Process

Finding an Internship

Traditional internship postings

A great place to start when looking for internships is positions that are posted and being recruited for. UW Oshkosh uses Titan Jobs. Through this system, organizations post their open internships, and students are able to search based on chosen criteria. You can also "save your search," meaning that when a position is posted that matches your saved criteria, you will get an automatic e-mail in your inbox. There are several other online sources to find internships as well.

Personal and professional networks

Network with new organizations and people at the College of Business Networking Night or at a Career Fair. Also tap into your established contacts such as organizations that you have previously come into contact with or people that you may know, such as faculty, friends or family.

Target companies

Come up with a list of "target companies." These are organizations that you have interest in, but are unaware of any contacts or internship availability. Research their organization and find a contact person. It is then your responsibility to make the first connection to pursue an internship opportunity.

Interviewing for an Internship

Congratulations! You have an interview for an internship! Here are a few very important tips to remember:

  • Arrive on time, preferably 10-15 minutes early.
  • Research the organization. Make sure you understand the company's mission and culture.
  • Dress professionally. For tips on appropriate professional dress, click here.

For more tips on successful interviewing, login to Titan Jobs, and click on the "Resource Library" and then view the documents in the "Interviewing Resources" Folder

Internship Approval

If you find an internship, you must meet with the Professional Development Director prior to starting the internship, or it may not fulfill your graduation requirement.
