Business and Economics in China Study Tour
Courses: BUS 494 or EC 399
Time: May 2013 Interim
Next Trip: May 2015
Faculty: Sarinda Taengnoi (Economics) and Will Morrison (Acct/Finance)
Description: Imagine climbing the Great Wall, exploring the Forbidden City, visiting Buddhist Temples, and soaking up the beautiful scenery at West Lake. This is no ordinary study abroad trip.
The College of Business will be going to China during the May 2013 Interim. Students can take BUS 494 International Business Experience, which meets the Global Knowledge Requirement as well the study abroad requirement for a Global Business Minor or an International Management emphasis. It also earns you 3 upper-division elective credits. Economics majors can choose to take EC 399 instead.
The first week of May Interim we will have three days of classes at UW Oshkosh, then we will go together on a three-week trip to China. After a few days taking in the amazing cosmopolitan city of Shanghai, we will spend two weeks on the campus of our partner Ningbo University, with mornings given to seminars and guest lectures. We’ll learn about Chinese business culture (including business dinners and gift-giving). We will study supply chain issues for U.S. companies, marketing in China, quality-control, and we’ll learn all about the world’s second largest economy.
We’ll spend one weekend in Hangzhou which is one of the most beautiful cities in China, on scenic West Lake. During the last week of the trip, we will travel to Beijing and explore the Forbidden City, see the Ming Tombs and climb the Great Wall.
