Department Successes

Many of our Economics alumni have pursued graduate degrees in Economics, Finance, Public Policy, or other related disciplines.

Rick Graycarek graduated from UWO in Economics in 1992. He earned a Masters in Public Policy from U Kentucky in 1994. He currently works for the State of Kentucky’s Legislative Research Commission.

Souphala Chomsisengphet graduated from UWO in Economics in 1995. She got her Doctorate in Economics from UW Milwaukee in 2000. She is currently the Deputy Director of the Credit Risk Analysis Division of the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency in Washington D.C. Her NBER paper, “Regulating Consumer Financial Products: Evidence from Credit Cards” was presented at the American Economic Association annual conference in 2014.

Berna Yigit Brannon graduated from UWO in Economics in 1999. She earned a Masters in Applied Economics from Marquette in 2001. She has worked as a Social Security Analyst for the Cato Foundation, and as a Congressional Liaison for the New America Foundation, Washington D.C.

Chad Cotti graduated from UWO in Economics in 2000. He got his Doctorate in Economics from UW Milwaukee in 2006. He is currently an Associate Professor in Economics at UWO.

Jordan Beck graduated from UWO in Economics in 2002. He earned a Masters in Economics from UC-Berkeley in 2005. He is currently the Associate Global Insights Manager - Analytic Insights at The Clorox Company in Berkeley, CA.

Andrew Hanson graduated from UWO in Economics in 2003. He got his Doctorate in Economics from Syracuse University in 2008. He is currently an Associate Professor in Economics at Marquette.

Allan Stockinger graduated from UWO in Economics in 2003. He earned a Masters in Environmental Economics from UNV-Reno in 2007. He is currently the Laboratory Coordinator & Instructor at Brescia University, Owensboro, KY.

Ange-Romain Coulibaly graduated from UWO in Economics in 2004. He earned a Masters in Economics and Finance from Indiana in 2007. He is currently the Business Development & Marketing Manager at Internationale de Commerce et de Management in the Cote D’Ivorie.

Barry Knutson graduated from UWO in Economics in 2004. He earned a Masters in Actuarial Science from Iowa in 2006. He is currently works as an actuary in Des Moines, Iowa.

Jeff Albright graduated from UWO in Economics in 2005. He is currently pursuing a doctorate in Agricultural Economics at UW-Madison.

Mark Hamilton graduated from UWO in Economics in 2005. He earned a Masters in Economics from UW Milwaukee in 2011. He currently lives in Springfield, Oregon, and works as a labor organizer for the American Association of University Professors/American Federation of Teachers (AAUP/AFT).

Farshid Haque graduated from UWO in Economics in 2005. He got his Doctorate in Agricultural Economics from U California Davis in 2013. He currently teaches at UC Davis.

Laurie Turtenwald Miller graduated from UWO in Economics in 2005. She got her Doctorate in Economics from UW Milwaukee in 2012. She is currently an Assistant Professor of Practice in Economics at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln.

Cliff Moll graduated from UWO in Economics and Finance in 2005. He got his Doctorate in Finance from Florida State in 2010. He is currently an Assistant Professor in Finance at UWO.

Anna Kovalenko graduated from UWO in Economics and Finance in 2006. She is currently pursuing a doctorate in Finance at Virginia Tech.

Beau Buchmann graduated from UWO in Economics in 2007. He earned a Masters in Economics from Syracuse in Economics in 2009. He is currently an equity analyst in Toronto, Canada.

Ahmed Sharif graduated from UWO in Economics in 2007. He earned a Masters in Management Science and Engineering from Stanford U in 2012. He is currently a Structured Finance Associate at SolarCity, San Francisco, CA.

Abby Corbett Pitzner graduated from UWO in Economics in 2008. She earned a Masters in Economics from UW Milwaukee  in Economics in 2009. She is currently the Director of Investment Research at Continental Realty Advisors, Denver, CO.

Jonel Kristo graduated from UWO in Economics in 2008 and earned the Chancellor’s Award for Excellence. He received his MBA from UW Oshkosh in 2010. He is currently the Head of Project Research and Development at the Albanian American Development Foundation, having previously served as an economist for the Bank of Albania.

Adam Stern graduated from UWO in Economics in 2008. He earned a Masters in Environmental Economics from U Maine in Environ Econ in 2010. He is currently an Economist with the Office of Policy Analysis, U.S. Department of the Interior. His band, Humble Fire, has just released their first album, The Great Resolve.

Anthony Diercks graduated from UWO in Economics in 2009, receiving the Chancellor’s Award for Excellence. He is currently pursuing a doctorate in Economics at U North Carolina and anticipates graduating in 2015.  

Virginia Pliska Maas graduated from UWO in Economics in 2009. She earned a Masters in Economics from Purdue in Economics in 2011. She is currently a Senior Business Analyst at Jewelers Mutual Insurance Company, Neenah, WI.

Anna Maximova graduated from UWO in Economics and Finance in 2010. She earned a Masters in Economics from W Kentucky U in Economics in 2012. She is currently pursuing a doctorate in Economics at Kentucky.

Krista Newell graduated from UWO in Economics in 2010. She earned a Masters in Economics from Oregon U in Econ in 2011. She is currently working in the Financial Systems Analyst Department at SII Investments.

Darin Ullmann graduated from UWO in Economics in 2010. He is currently pursuing a doctorate in Economics at UW Milwaukee.

William Burchard graduated from UWO in Economics in 2011. He earned a Masters in Economics from Oregon in 2013. He is currently an Economist in the Workforce and Economic Research Division of the State of Oregon Department of Employment.

Paul Beach graduated from UWO in Economics in 2011. He earned a Masters in Public Policy from Oregon U in 2013. He is currently a Research Associate at Educational Policy Improvement Center in Eugene, OR.

Elizabeth Matulle Michael graduated from UWO in Economics in 2011. She earned a Masters in Economics from U Connecticut in Economics in 2012. She is currently a Marketing Assistant at b-glowing.com, Portland, OR.

Christina Miller graduated from UWO in Economics in 2011. She earned a Masters in Public Policy from UW Madison in 2013. She is currently a Program and Budget Intern/Volunteer at WE International Inc., Washington DC.

Nick Bloedow graduated from UWO in Economics in 2011. He will earn a Masters in Statistics from Kansas St in 2014.

Nadeesha Thewarapperuma graduated from UWO in Economics in 2011. She earned a Masters in Environmental Economics from U Maine in 2013, and a Masters in Economics at U New Hampshire in 2014. She is currently working as a Marketing Analyst for EarthTron LLC.

Krista Lynch graduated from UWO in Economics in 2012. She earned a Masters in Economics from Kansas St in 2014. She is currently working as a Market Analyst in the Pacific Northwest.

Luis Granados graduated from UWO in Economics in 2012. He earned a Masters in Economics from SUNY-Binghamton in 2014. He is currently employed at the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Martin Meder graduated from UWO in Economics in 2014. He is currently pursuing a doctorate in Economics at UW Milwaukee.
