Aaron James, Sales and Marketing Intern
Currently, I am one of two Sales and Marketing Interns at Super Bowl in Appleton. Along with one other fellow intern, we are the first interns Super Bowl has ever had, and it is a compliment to how well Super Bowl has grown in the past few years.
Super Bowl is a 48 lane bowling alley on the northern edge of Appleton. Super Bowl plays host to many local and state tournaments, as well as having some of the best run and most competitive bowling leagues in Wisconsin.
Super Bowl also runs the Bowler’s Edge Pro Shop as well as Slugger’s Sports Bar, both of which have their own management but are owned by Super Bowl. Bowler’s Edge is one of the most successful Pro Shops in the Fox Valley and is equipped with the most modern technology to keep themselves ahead. Slugger’s is a sports bar with a wide variety of menu items that is rapidly improving. Slugger’s also hosts a DJ and a band every weekend.
Obtaining My Internship
I was very lucky to find my internship when I did. I found my internship on Titan Jobs the day before the position was going to expire and contacted their general manager immediately. I emailed him a copy of my resume and told him how interested I was in the position. I explained to him why I was applying for a Marketing position (I am an Economics major) and stressed to him how I could still fulfill the position he was looking for.
My interview was three days later where I met with the general manager and the sales and marketing manager. Throughout the interview, I stressed to them why I was the right man for the job and they stressed to me why the internship would be right for me. I left the interview with a very positive feeling towards the position. The next day I received a phone call telling me that I had been chosen for the position.
What I Do
I complete a wide variety of tasks at Super Bowl that range anywhere from helping create flyers, communicating with other businesses about company events, and running revenue analyses to help focus on what Super Bowl can do to make more money. While a lot of the work is marketing based, I still do find it very interesting and I am learning a lot from this internship. I also appreciate that Super Bowl has given me the opportunity to projects that focus on what I am learning in my Economics courses.
