State Employee Recognition Day
May 6, 2003
Dear Colleagues,
The greatness of the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh stems from the outstanding
quality of the people who make up the University community: its faculty,
academic staff and classified staff. In recognition of this fact, on April
15 we honored employees at a Length of Service and retirees’ dinner.
We will be celebrating the accomplishments of the members of the classified
staff Friday, June 6 through the annual Classified Staff Appreciation and
Development Day.. On May 13, the Provost’s Office will host the first
annual Faculty and Academic Staff Appreciation Reception. These celebrations
coincide with the Governor’s newly established State Employee Recognition
Day on Friday, May 9.
On this occasion, I to express my personal thanks to all of the members
of the University community, who—to use the metaphor from my Opening
Day remarks—have helped in “adjusting the sails” in what
turned out to be even stormier times. No matter what the future, the quality
of our University is insured by the quality of its people. I am proud of
the work you have done, and I am proud to be counted as a member of this
great institution.
I am also delighted that the Joint Committee of Employee Relations voted
to approve the State Employee Union contract, which has been sent to the
full legislature. This is a significant expression of respect for the professionalism
of this important segment of our community.
Sincerely,Richard H. Wells, Chancellor
University of Wisconsin Oshkosh
