About CCDET


The Center for Career Development and Employability Training (CCDET)
was founded in 1979 as a youth advocacy and adult career counseling outreach. It is funded fully through grants and service contracts to provide innovative training and support services to individuals, organizations, agencies and communities throughout Wisconsin.

CCDET staff are located at UW Oshkosh, home-based offices and contracted placements throughout the state.

CCDET is recognized as a leader in regional and state training. CCDET creates new approaches and works with customers to modify existing strategies, providing training workshops and support services that meet unique needs. CCDET staff includes trainers, training program designers, curriculum developers and writers, technology specialists, quality assurance specialists and other professionals who provide services to youth & families.

CCDET's community involvement provides UW Oshkosh students opportunities for hands-on experience through:

CCDET Resumé

The Center for Career Development & Employability Training (CCDET) is committed to providing innovative training and support services to Federal, State, and local agencies. State governmental departments CCDET has partnered with over the years include:
Department of Corrections (DOC), AmeriCorps, Department of Health and Family Services (DHFS) and Department of Workforce Development (DWD).

A mix of Federal funds passed through the State of Wisconsin to provide training and accuracy monitoring programs for agency FoodShare and Medicaid programs statewide:
Positions that have been federally funded include Payment Accuracy Consultants, Medicaid Assistance Quality Assurance Specialists, Program Integrity Analysts. Income Maintenance (IM) Trainers provide case reviews and technical assistance in Milwaukee and the balance of the state.

Combined Federal and State funds, including TANF, Wisconsin Works (W2):
CCDET provides curriculum development and policy, enhanced case management, and technical training annually to new and experienced county, tribal, and private agency staff who provide assistance services around the state. These moneys also fund technology consulting and training.


Workforce Investment Act (WIA), which replaced JTPA, funded through Department of Labor:
CCDET is contracted through the Fox Valley Workforce Development Board, and provides employment training and placement for WIA eligible youth in a number of counties. Activities provided include tutoring, study skills training, employment opportunities, paid and unpaid work experiences, occupational skills training, leadership development training, support and follow-up services.


AmeriCorps:
The AmeriCorps Connects program, which was funded from September 2002 - August 2003 & from September 2004 - present, supports people and organizations by using citizen service as a strategy to meet community needs, primarily in the areas of education, disaster readiness, and other human services. Many UW Oshkosh students serve as AmeriCorps members in community agencies and earn education awards at the end of their service.

Juvenile Restitution - funded through Winnebago County:
The Winnebago County Juvenile Restitution Program receives referrals for restitution and community service from the Winnebago County Circuit Courts and Winnebago County Juvenile Intake. All youth ages 10-17 ordered to pay restitution and/or complete community service are accepted. Student interns from the University are utilized as adjunct staff in non-paid positions.

Truancy Intervention Program (TIP) - funded through Winnebago County:
UW Oshkosh students serve as mentors to students in the Oshkosh Area School District with attendance problems. The focus of this program is improve attendance and reconnect students to learning. UW Oshkosh AmeriCorps Connects members assist in this program. This program is funded through Winnebago County.


Previous CCDET Contracts:
Job Training Partnership Act Adult Programs through Department of Labor:
From July 1988 through June 1999 CCDET provided training to nearly 5,000 adult recipients of Aid to Families with Dependent Children. In partnership with the local Private Industry Council, Winne-Fond-Lake PIC Ltd, and Northern Lake Winnebago PIC, CCDET provided up to five days of motivation building and parenting training components for AFDC recipients receiving job search and skill building training in up to five counties.


Choices, Challenges, Changes - Federally funded through the local Workforce Development Center:
This series of workshops focused on self-esteem, motivation, time management, effective communication and strategies to meet personal and professional challenges.


Milwaukee County Training Support Grant:
From 2000-June 2005, CCDET provided technology and supervisory support for Milwaukee County TANF and Payment Accuracy staff.
