Welcome to the Center for Balance

Welcome to the Center for Balance. We understand  you are presented with many challenges and opportunities that you must learn to balance such as papers, tests, work, building new relationships, friends and family issues, health, adjustment to new things and social activities. We have many tools to help you find the balance. You can call the Counseling Center to schedule an appointment to explore various options for stress management. Some examples include:

Biofeedback

Biofeedback is a tool that measures your body's responses to stress. Biofeedback trains you to become familiar with your own body’s unique patterns and responses to stress and anxiety.  Through this process, you can learn to control your body’s unique pattern and response rather than having them control you.

Light Treatment

The light treatment program through the Center for Balance was initiated as a way to address student and faculty requests for help with decreased alertness, decreased energy level and/or sleep issues.

Self help materials

Many forms of self help materials are available in the self help library at the Counseling Center.  Some of these include: books, relaxation CD’s, yoga DVD’s, and workbooks.  In addition your therapist may suggest some worksheets or handout information.

Individual treatment

You will work with a Counseling Center Staff member to develop a plan that fits your needs for stress management .

Groups

Groups  are also available to address anxiety.  Groups provide support, education and time to practice relaxation techniques.

Sleep Hygiene Assessment

Sleep is very important to one’s sense of focus, ability to concentrate, happiness, and health and brain power. Sleep will be evaluated as part of your individual assessment.  Sleep hygiene tips can be provided to help you work toward a goal of more effective sleep.
