Political science
is the study of government and the processes by
which the public policies that regulate our lives
are made. No one can escape the effects of
politics: therefore, no one who is concerned with
the quality of live and survival can afford to ignore
it. The department of political science at the University
of Wisconsin Oshkosh has a comprehensive curriculum
that offers numerous opportunities for specialization.
The curriculum is divided in to five major fields:
1. American government, public law and political
process
2. political theory
3. comparative government
4. international relations
5. public administration
A major in political science is an appropriate stepping-stone
to law school. The department's pre-law coordinator
maintains active files and advisement materials
relating to preparation for the Law School Admission
Test (LSAT) and law school placement data.
The political science department offers the pre-professional
pre-law program. The department offer a minor in
political science and a public administration minor.
The department offers a variety of internships that
allow the student to earn academic credit while
working in local, state or national government offices,
or with political parties, pressure groups and public
interest groups. For example, some student
interns work in Wisconsin's Sixth District Congressman's
Washington office. The department's internship
coordinator maintains active files of all internship
opportunities.
