Center for Academic Resources

Other Tutoring Available

Several programs and academic departments provide tutoring for students at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh. Some tutoring is available to all students; other programs are funded by agencies that limit the number or characteristics of students who are eligible for tutoring. Check out the list below to see what options are available for you.

CAR Programs
The Writing Center, Reading/Study Center, and the Math Lab are all free and available to any student seeking help in those skills. In addition, CAR can provide tutors for most courses on campus; review the Tutors & SI page to see which courses have assigned tutors. If the course you want isn't listed there, you can request a tutor.

Multicultural Retention Programs
To help increase retention and graduation of multicultural and disadvantaged students, the MRP offers a variety of services for the campus and community. Two specialists offer help with math and writing for eligible students, and staff members work with faculty to provide early warning intervention for students needing academic assistance. For more information about programs and eligibility, check the website for the Multicultural Retention Programs.

Project Success
Housed in the College of Education and Human Services, Project Success is a remedial program for college students with dyslexia and other language-based learning disabilities. Services focus on teaching the reading, spelling, writing, and organizational skills that foster success in college. Testing accomodations and limited tutoring are also available. For more information, including the criteria for participating, check the Project Success website.

Student Support Services
Student Support Services (SSS) is a federally funded program that promotes the retention and graduation of first-generation, income-eligible and/or disabled students by helping them maximize their academic potential. SSS provides academic advising, tutoring, grant aid, cultural enrichment activities, and career, personal, and financial aid counseling. To find out whether you are eligible to participate, review the website for Student Support Services.

Tutoring Offered by Academic Departments
A few academic departments hire students who provide tutoring on a walk-in or appointment basis. In order to find out whether a course you're taking is covered by a department's tutoring program, check CAR's Tutors & SI page.

The Center for Academic Resources is funded by Differential Tuition: all of its services
are free for undergraduates at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh.
