This year was the first year CAPP has awarded this scholarship. Recipients have completed a CAPP course and have started as a full time student at UW Oshkosh this fall. Students are nominated by their instructor or liaison.

These courses are slightly different from our traditional course offerings because:

  1. University faculty will teach the course
  2. Tuition will tentatively be set at $235/credit (subject to change)
  3. Courses may not count toward high school credits due to the fact that faculty most likely will not have secondary-education licensure

Three teachers with local connections have won the 2010 Herb Kohl Foundation Fellowship awards. Chrissy Makurat of Omro Elementary School, Kathryn Riederer, of Webster Stanley Elementary School and John Dobyns of Oshkosh, a teacher at Freedom High School, were winners of the fellowships. According to Herb Kohl Foundation Web site, educators are selected for the fellowship for "their superior ability to inspire a love of learning in their students and ability to motivate others, and for their leadership and service within and outside the classroom." Each teacher chosen receives a $1,000 award and each fellow's school also receives a $1,000 grant. The honored is bestowed on 100 Wisconsin teachers each year.

It gave the students a feel of how a lab at a college differs from labs here at Campbellsport, and also to meet the professors who teach the course at the university, and use equipment that the chemistry class does not have. Krysten Seefeldt, a CAPP Chemistry student at Campbellsport High School, was one of eleven students that took a field trip to UW Oshkosh to do a lab. “To be honest, I was kind of scared that I would break the $26,000 scale we had to use, and that I would mess something up,” Seefeldt said. The part Seefeldt liked most about the lab was painting with the paint they made earlier that day, but the worst part was the smell of the egg yolk that was used to make a couple of the paints. “I felt the lab was a lot of fun, and very beneficial. After the lab we got to go out to eat and bond with our chem class. It was a blast.” Read More...
