Survey of neighbors finds support for proposal to expand south-side elementary school
After years of false starts, a plan to expand Lakeside Elementary School likely will move forward this week.
Oshkosh Area School Board members will consider a resolution Wednesday to resume the process of hiring an architect to design and oversee the expansion by releasing a request for proposals this week, according to board materials the district released in advance of this week’s meeting.
A recent survey of residents of the Lakeside and Green Meadow attendance areas showed that of the 251 people who responded to the survey, 225 or about 90 percent agreed it is important for the Lakeside/Green Meadow community to have its own kindergarten-through-fifth grade elementary school, according to a report detailing the survey’s findings. In addition, 85 percent of respondents said the district should add on to the school.
The survey was conducted in conjunction with the Lakeside Parent Teacher Organization, the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh and the UWO Business Success Center.
