What does the Business Success Center do?

We recruit students from UW Oshkosh and find them internships at area businesses. The Business Success Center also employs faculty and staff from UW Oshkosh to do consulting and training for area businesses. For more information on our services, check out the For Businesses page.

How many enrolled credit hours do I need to be an intern?

You need to be taking a minimum of six credits to be an intern.

How many hours will I work at my internship?

We realize that you’re a student first and need to make school a priority.  During the school year, we ask that you work about 12 to 15 hours per week, or a maximum of 20. During the summer, you can work up to 40 hours per week.

Are there opportunities to pick up additional hours?

At times, the Business Success Center has additional short-term projects available. We encourage you to help out with these projects. They won’t take up very much of your time and are great skill-building experiences.

How should I dress for my internship?

If you are not sure how to dress, always dress up. If you see that others in your work environment don’t dress up as much, then you can dress more business casual. It looks a lot better if you are dressed nicer than others rather than being underdressed.

How do I get paid?

You will enter your hours in both Time Report (there is a link on the right side of this page for the Timesheet Login) and Kronos. Your hours are due every two weeks. Our intern manager will send out a reminder email the week your hours are due. Make sure that you approve your hours in Kronos when they are due.

Why are there two places to record my hours?

Time Report is how we track your hours for a particular placement. Here you will enter a description that helps us keep track of how many hours you worked at a particular company or on a particular project and what you did. Kronos keeps track of the total hours you worked, and that is how we know how much to pay you. Kronos doesn’t tell us what hours you spent doing what tasks or where you worked. It just tells us your total hours for the two-week pay period.

Who pays me?

You are paid through the Business Success Center/UW Oshkosh. Your paycheck will be directly deposited into your checking account.

When do I get paid?

Your money appears in your checking account two weeks after the day your hours are due. You get paid twice a month.

Who should I notify if I am sick or when I want to take a vacation?

You should send an email to your supervisor and to our intern manager, so everyone is aware of what is happening.

Can I get college credit for my internship?

Our internships do typically qualify for college credit. However, you need to coordinate that with the intern coordinator for your college.
