Biology and Microbiology Club

Biology and microbiology majors work together to make this a very active club! Students have brought speakers to UW Oshkosh, involved themselves in community events, provided scholarships and held fundraisers to support their work. They have even gone whitewater rafting! The club culminates each school year with a banquet that features a speaker who is well-known in a field of general interest to the students. Contact the Department of Biology and Microbiology for more information.

Pre Health Professionals of Oshkosh (PHPO)

There are dozens of healthcare careers available in today's job market, ranging from the caregiving to the scientific to the business ends of the spectrum. Healthcare encompasses human beings and non-human animals. Moreover, modern healthcare is very much a "team sport" so it behooves the budding young professional to know about as many careers in the field as he or she can.

Various undergraduate degrees in our department -- and in other departments on our campus -- serve students well in preparing for healthcare careers. Since nearly all healthcare positions require some exposure to biology (especially anatomy and physiology), our department is the "home" of the interdisciplinary PreHealth Professionals of Oshkosh.

PHPO is an umbrella organization on campus with hundreds of members, which aims to inform students about campus resources related to health care and to promote their undergraduate careers through focused activities (such as field trips, mock interviews, entrance exam preparation, and invited speakers) and invaluable peer advising. Meetings are approximately monthly during the fall and spring semesters. The adviser for PHPO is biology's Dana Vaughan.
