Bio- Zachary Kaiser
This is a picture of me getting ready for training in Texas whne I was deployed with Charlie Company 2/127 out of Fond du Lac Wisconsin
My name is Zachary Kaiser, and I’ve been assigned to report the story of Todd Raley for the War: Through Their Eyes Project. I first found an interest in Journalism during my second tour of Iraq. I think this drive to hear and write stories grew from a feeling of missing out while overseas. I always imagined that I was in the desert, and my friends and family were at home enjoying themselves, and I was missing everything. This feeling of missing out drove me to want to be places and learn things before anyone else.
As a veteran and a student journalist, I began this project with an interest to report the stories of an older veteran. I have met many of veterans like Todd Raley, but they were reluctant to share their stories with me due because I was only 19 during my first deployment. I feel there is a gap between the young veterans emerging from the Global War on Terror and the veterans of the past. Although veterans interact all the time, we operate on different planes. I hope to help connect that gap.
