Warriors & Nurses Opening Night

This is the video of the Nov. 9, 2012 opening of the War: Through Their Eyes, Vol. 2, Warriors & Nurses project at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh. The student/faculty collaborative project resulted in an 80-page book, series of podcasts and a photo exhibit. Warriors & Nurses focused on the stories of five veterans who are either students or alumni of the College of Nursing.

Warriors & Nurses Opening Night

Hundreds of people filed into the Steinhilber Gallery for the Nov. 9 opening of War: Through Their Eyes, Vol. 2, Warriors & Nurses. In the gallery, visitors saw the photographs of five veterans who are either students or alumni of the College of Nursing at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh. These five veterans, who've left the battlefield and entered into nursing, were featured in the second of the War: Through Their Eyes series, Warriors & Nurses. The project was led by Grace Lim, a journalism instructor and editor of the project, and students Noell Dickmann, Brad Beck, Morgan Counts, Nate Cate and Amy Wasnidge. The project was designed by Shawn McAfee of the University's Learning Technologies.

The following is the video of multimedia presentation in the Reeve Union Theatre. (The video was produced by Wayne Abler of UW Oshkosh Learning Technologies.) Lane Earns, Provost of UW Oshkosh, welcomed the standing-room only crowd; Grace Lim told the story behind Warriors & Nurses; students Nate Cate, Morgan Counts, Noell Dickmann, Brad Beck and Amy Wasnidge, introduced each of the featured veterans; State Sen. Jessica King presented a special commendation to the Warriors & Nurses team; Shawn Monroe, coordinator of the University's Veterans Resource Center, and Richard H. Wells, Chancellor of the University, presented a special dedication to the Craig Birkholz family. The Chancellor then gave closing remarks.
