Criteria for Approval of New Assessment Plans
1. Do/does the goal(s) have clearly stated assessment
processes/instruments?
2. Are multiple measures being proposed for the set
of
goals? e.g.,
_
locally-prepared
tests and exams
_
standardized
exams
_
portfolios
_
capstone
seminar courses
_ exit
interviews
_ student
surveys
_
proficiency
profiles
_ oral
exams
_
capstone
practicum experiences
_
clinical
performance
3. Does there appear to be a match between the
process/instrument
and the nature of the goal? This may be difficult to determine,
but
if you're uncertain, perhaps that will flag the need for discussions
with
the department.
4. Has the department identified criteria and/or
standards
of success to determine student achievement of the goals? Is
there
a match between the criteria/standards and the nature of the assessment
process/instrument?
5. If standards of success are not achieved, has the
department
clarified feedback mechanisms that will allow the resulting data to be
a
catalyst for program improvement; i.e., to make improvements in
pertinent
courses and/or instruction?
6. Does the assessment plan appear to be cost
effective
in terms of time and money (for students, faculty and support staff)?
7. Are the departmental timelines in the assessment
plan
realistic and appropriate (not too long or too short)?
