Fun facts to know about being an Art Major at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh.

Majors

  • There are over 300 majors in the Art Department and about 80% of them are Fine Arts majors (BFA).
  • There are over 50 minors in the Art Department.
  • Two majors in the Art Department:
    • Fine Arts Major (for a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree)
    • Art (general) Major (for a Bachelor of Art or Bachelor of Science degree).

Facilities

  • The Arts & Communication Center (AC) is open:
    • Weekdays 7am to 10pm
    • Weekends 8am to 10pm
  • Some studios are always open, others have special hours - check with the instructor.
  • Art Offices are AC 325 & 322.
  • The Chair's Office is AC 328 and the majority of faculty are on the 5th floor.
  • Storage lockers are free for majors, located in the basement. They must be registered in the Art Office (AC 322). Select a locker, put a lock on it, and then register.
  • There are three art galleries on campus, two are housed in the Arts and Communication Center. See Galleries
  • The Art Department has a computer lab for students in Design courses that houses 20 Apple iMac, 27-inch, 2.06Hz Intel Core 2 Duo workstations. Check out our Design Area for more information on the specifics of the Computer Lab.

Extracurricular

  • The Art Department sponsors a field trip during most semesters.  It is usually to Chicago and is a great way to see many works of art firsthand.Chicago Trip F2010
  • There are four student organizations in the Art Department:
    • Students Organized for Art (SOFA)
    • Gallery Board
    • National Art Education Association (NAEA)
    • 18 Chairs Sculpture Club
  • The Art Department hosts the annual High School Art Day which draws numerous students across the state to come to campus and participate in workshops and critiques.  Top work is selected to be exhibited. See High School Art Day
