http://causeycontemporary.com/future-exhibitions

Opening Reception: Friday, December 16th, 6-9 p.m.

December 16th, 2011 – January 22nd, 2012

For Immediate Release

Zane York: Stewards

December 16, 2011 – January 22, 2012

Brooklyn, NY, October 2011 - Causey Contemporary is pleased to announce the opening of their December exhibition, Stewards by Zane York. Mr. York will be exhibiting his newest series of subtly mysterious oil paintings, depicting an eclectic variety of subjects: taxidermy animals, insects, mundane artifacts and enigmatic scenarios. This exhibition, which marks Mr. York’s first show with the gallery, will be on view from December 16, 2011 to January 22, 2012 at the gallery’s Williamsburg Brooklyn location - 92 Wythe Avenue near the corner of N. 11 Street. A public reception will be held with the artist on Friday, December 16th from 6 - 9 p.m.

Stewards will contemplate our longing as humans to relate to the beasts and bugs and to share some form of experience with them, or, at the very least, feel like we have. At times, this desire is anthropomorphic, at other times it may be stereotypical, but sometimes it can feel more significant. Zane’s paintings investigate the nuances of certain moments, raising a dichotomy between the temporal and the mystical. Mr. York states: “our interactions are limitless, and as stewards we find ourselves by minding the beasts.”

Brooklyn-based painter, Zane York, was born in Fremont, Nebraska in 1978. He received his BFA in drawing, painting and sculpture from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh and received an MFA from the New York Academy of Art. Aside from showing with Causey Contemporary, Zane has also exhibited his work with Eden Rock Gallery in St. Barth’s, The Fontbonne University Gallery in St. Louis, Missouri, Studio 7 Gallery in New Jersey, and in exhibitions at The New York Academy of Art. His work has earned numerous awards, from institutions such as the Posey Foundation, the Milton J. Memorial, The Prince of Wales Scholarship, among others.

Stewards will open at Causey Contemporary on December 16th with a public reception from 6 - 9 p.m. and will run through January 22, 2012. The public is invited to attend the reception or visit the gallery during normal gallery hours: Wed-Sat. 11 a.m. - 7 p.m. and Sun. 12 - 6 p.m. For more information contact the gallery at 718 218 8939 or via email: info@causeycontemporary.com
