Requirements for the Fine Arts major (BFA), Art major (BA or BS) and Minor as well as information about the Post-Foundation Portfolio Review.

It is VERY important to not delay your program by starting your Art courses immediately.  Please talk to an Art faculty member soon about the sequence of foundation/core courses!

General Education Requirements

BFA vs. BA/BS - the differences between the degrees

The Department of Art offers two majors:

FINE ARTS MAJOR - BFA

Emphases: 2D Studio, 3D Studio, Art Education, Design

Recommended for students who wish to prepare for a professional career in the studio arts, to satisfy entrance requirements for graduate art studio programs, or to become art teachers (Art Education (K-12) emphasis). Students completing the Fine Arts major and the University's baccalaureate degree requirements will earn the Bachelor of Fine Arts degree.

ART (GENERAL) MAJOR - BA/BS

Students may elect to take the Art (general) Major through either the Bachelor of Arts or the Bachelor of Science degree program.  This degree is recommended for students who wish for a non-professional major in the studio area.

Post-Foundation Portfolio Review

All Fine Arts Majors (BFA) and Art Majors (BA/BS) will be required to take a Post-Foundation Portfolio Review. The review will take place after completion of the studio foundations courses (Art 111, 112, 114.) Passing the portfolio review is required for entry into the BFA, BA, and BS program.
