Neenah Celebrates Without Booze And The Giant Cracker Independence Day, 1919, was different from the old time Fourth of Julys in two striking respects. Booze and the giant firecracker were conspicuous by their absnce (sic)….One result of the abolition of the giant firecracker and blank revolvers was to be noticed in the practically total absence of serious accidents. ... Drunkenness was nil. Moreover, the people appeared to enjoy themselves to as great, if not greater extent, than ever before with sanity and abstinance (sic) replacing bedlam and inebriation.
