There are two lessons in this section:

1) Letters of Ella Wheeler, 1865-1866

Ella Wheeler was a teacher from Neenah who taught west of the city in Clayton and Winchester. She came back into Neenah to celebrate the 4th of July and wrote to her friend in Shawano about what she did.

 
2) Reminiscence of Mary Aurelia Kimberly Hamilton, 1849 (1913)

Mrs. Hamilton was a little girl when she moved to Neenah in 1849. In 1913 she wrote down her memories of what life was like here in those early days. She describes her first 4th of July celebration here in 1849.
