Vital Records

Find birth, death, and marriage records recorded by the STATE before October 1, 1907 from Dodge, Fond du Lac, Green Lake, Marquette and Winnebago counties. Use the Wisconsin Historical Society index to see if we have the record you seek. If so, you can return here to request a copy from us for $5. Or visit us to get copies for free.

Naturalization Records

Locate and order copies of citizenship papers by using our Genealogy Records Index. Prior to 1907, most naturalizations of immigrants were completed at the local court level. The process required two forms to be recorded: the Declaration of Intention ("First Papers") and the Petition ("Second" or "Final Papers).

Civil & Probate Court Records

Discover lawsuits, divorces, and other civil litigation that can provide rich information on the lives of family members. Probate records can provide answers regarding distribution of estates and the guardianship of minor children. Find and order copies of SOME of our civil and probate court records in our Genealogy Records Index above.

Tax & Property Records

Research buildings and properties by using assessment and real estate tax rolls, or C.W.A. appraisal cards. Organized by legal description, assessment and tax rolls tell you how much a property was valued and by whom the tax was paid. Assessment and Tax Roll holdings vary by community:

Newspapers

We have on microfilm one principle local newspaper from each of our five counties that date generally from the mid-19th century to WWII. We have no index for these papers here. Many other titles are available and searchable on the Newspaper Archive database (available for free via Badgerlink for WI residents)

Plat Maps

Visit us or order copies to access our collection of land ownership or “plat” maps. These maps show the size of rural properties as well as the name of the owner. Some of these titles, along with Sanborn-Paris maps of cities and villages, birds-eyes and other maps can be found among the online map collection at the Wisconsin Historical Society website.
