As of September 15, 2008, the UW Oshkosh Archives and Area Research Center is charging fees to off-site patrons wishing to acquire reproductions of records or to have "sustained" research services performed for them. Questions regarding these fees can be sent to archives@uwosh.edu.

Fees for Naturalization Records

Fees for Birth/Death and Marriage Records:

The Wisconsin Historical Society hosts an on-line index of all birth, death and marriage records we hold. Fees for copies of archival records with full citation (e.g. court cases such as divorces, civil litigation, probate files, etc.):
In those cases in which photocopies are requested for a box or file and a full citation is easily available (provided by the patron OR by the UWO ARC) by use of an available index, a single $5 service charge will be imposed (regardless of time needed to fullfill the request). This fee includes the first 20 pages of the record(s). After that a charge of $0.10 per page will be imposed. Use this form to make the request.

Fees for copies or digital images from published books or newspapers (i.e. local history books, etc. ) with citation provided.

$5 per request from a single book or newspaper. Included in this $5 is the first 20 pages of any copies that are requested. After that a charge of $0.10 per page will be imposed. If digital copies are requested, electronic delivery will be attempted but in some circumstances CD ROMS may be required for an additional fee. In the cases of obituary, date of death is required (although full newspaper citation of obit is not).

Fees for copies or digital images of obituaries with or without citation provided.

$5 per request from newspapers. A request consists of an obituary for single individual. Full citation is not required, patron must provide the date of death and the likely newspaper or community the obituary appeared in. If digital copies are requested, electronic delivery will be attempted but in some circumstances a CD ROM may be required for an additional fee.

Fees for sustained research

Sustained research is defined as activities to discover information that involves going beyond searching invidual indexes to find citations. It involves reviewing records for content, cross referencing other sources, etc. It is distinguished from simple "reference" which is defined as the provision of general information about holdings, simple facts, agency hours and services. Reference service is free.

Fees for sustained research are $10 per half hour of research. Included in this $10 is the first 20 pages of any photocopies that are requested. After that a charge of $0.10 per page will be imposed.

Exceptions to sustained research fees:

•  As a service to alumni and their decedents, no sustained research fees will be charged if the topic of research is an alumn of UW Oshkosh or its predecessor institutions: e.g. genealogical research that involves searching student grade books of an alumn.

•  Research relating to university history by alumni or their family/decedents will not be charged for.

•  Research requested by local or state government agencies.

Digital Images:

Athough the search for images may include a sustained research fee, preview images (72 dpi, no larger than 3x4 inch) will be made available for free to off-site researchers. Print quality images will be made available in DIGITAL FORM ONLY for $3 per image (providing the University owns copyright to the image). Electronic delivery will be used as the principle delivery mechanism. Burning to CD ROM will cost an additional $1.

UW Oshkosh Archives and ARC does not provide copy negatives or ANY photographic prints.

Exceptions to digital images fees:

•  Current students, alumni and indidivuals conducting alumni research will not be charged imaging fees but will still be charged for media if needed.

Audio/Video Recordings:

Fees for copies of audio and video recordings will vary depending on the charges the library incurs from UW Oshkosh media staff or external vendors. Cost to the patron will be the total of those charges plus any sustained research charges incurred (minimum of $10).

Questions regarding the fees can be sent to archives@uwosh.edu.
