Between March 29, 1943 and June 30, 1944, the Oshkosh State Teachers College committed both property and staff to the war effort by training active duty military personnel for combat. By the time the army left Oshkosh, the school trained a total of 1,261 members of the Army Air Corps. These potential pilots, bombardiers and navigators took classes in physics, geography, English, and physical fitness, all taught by faculty of the school. With these skills and subjects freshly learned the airmen were ready to complete their training at regular air corps bases. |
