Schedule of Events Tuesday 4-21-2009 - One of Dr. Spehar’s colleagues from the NGO Paso Pacifico will be giving a presentation on conserving wildlife in the rainforest (Nicaragua). This is an Earth Week event. She will speak from 7-8:30 pm in Reeve 227AB. Tuesday 4-14-2009 - Join us for the movie “Gorillas in the Mist”. Dr. Spehar will give her wildlife class students extra credit for coming to this movie. Time and place tba. Tuesday 3-31-2009 -Join us for an Anthro Club Pub Night at Player’s Pizza & Pub. We will be meeting there at 5:30 pm. We will t try to reserve a table. Player’s has a happy hour that features free pizza when you purchase a drink that starts at 4:30 and I think that it goes until 6:30. We may also talk about some dates for future events. We’ll vote for new officers and talk about upcoming events. Wednesday 12-3-2008 - Join us for an end of the semester happy hour at Player’s Pizza and Pub at 4:15 pm. This is just an informal event and all are welcome! You don’t need to be a club member to join us. If you need a ride, we will be meeting at Reeve Mi Taza at 4pm to carpool. Wednesday 9-10-2008 - Join us for our first Anthropology Club meeting of the semester! Will talk about planned events and what our club is all about. We also want to hear your ideas too! It will be in Harrington 124 at 4pm. Wednesday 9-24-2008- Join us for our first movie of this school year. We will be showing Persepolis, an Oscar nominated movie, which is an animated coming-of-age story of a precocious and outspoken young Iranian girl that begins during the Islamic Revolution. It will be shown in Halsey Room 107 at 4pm. Snacks will be provided! You can also still pay dues at the discounted rate of $10/year at this event. Wednesday 10-1-2008 - Career/Grad School Event: There will be two events this day. Both of them will be in Reeve Room 201. The first event will be a Brown Bag Presentation by Michelle Miller, an applied anthropologist from Madison. She will speak at 1pm. The next event will be at 4 pm in the same room. This will be the main career event in which our own anthropology professors will speak to us about what types of careers are out there and what steps you need to get them. They will also talk a little bit about how they got into the field of anthropology. They will also talk about grad school. We hope to see you there! Wednesday 10-15-2008 - Anthropology club meeting. We will talk about fundraising ideas and Dr. Dan Lehrmann will talk about an upcoming summer study abroad trip to China. We hope to see you there! Wednesday 10-22-2008 - Bowling night! Come and join us for a relaxing evening of just chatting and getting to know each other. We will be having pizza and Dr. Spehar will be giving a short 15 minute talk on her upcoming trip to Nicaragua this summer. Her talk is entitled "Monkeys, Farms, and People: Working with local communities to protect wildlife in Nicaragua". Monday 4-14-2008 - Please join us in welcoming Azra Hromadzic, who will be speaking to our club about her research that she has done in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Her presentation will be in Harrington 124, Monday April 14th, at 3:00pm. Her talk is entitled “Smoking Doesn’t Kill, It Unites!” -(Cultural Meaning and Practices of Mixing at the Gymnasium Mostrar, Bosnia and Herzegovina. Monday 4-28-2008 - Join us for movie night at 5:00pm!! The movie will be Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark. Dr. Behm will lead a discussion after the movie. Location t.b.a. |
