Anthropology Club Meeting 2-4-2008 We talked about: -Very importantly – the budget. Samantha is now our OSA rep. She will go to the OSA office to see what she needs to do to fulfill her duties as OSA rep and she will also ask about re-submitting our budget this semester. We want to be sure that we follow all there rules this time, so that it is passed. -What time and day we should have the meetings. It would need to be 5pm on Tuesday or 3:30pm on every other Monday (according to Rick’s schedule). It was said that we could use both times as potential meeting times. It doesn’t have to be one set time. -The possibility to reducing the number of business meetings by having an agenda for our meetings, voting on issues (with whatever officer’s are present), and by emailing each other to take care of other business. -Only have general meetings that are purposeful. -Career night: Call it Career/Grad School Information night.- Need to make posters and advertise it. Need to email professors to remind them of the date. Need to ask Azra to attend also (Dr. Spehar said that she would do this). -Having Azra give a presentation (I think that Dr. Spehar said that she would do this too). -Other possible events: a writers workshop (Rick has contacted some people who would help with this). Try article discussions again, but without emailing out so many articles, which was probably turning people off by having to much to read on top of all their regular classes. Need to make it fun and easy. A meet and greet night of anthropologist. We’d like to find some non-professor anthro’s who work out in the community who could come and talk to us. I will talk to a friend of mine who works at Kimberly Clark, who says that they hire anthros there. Maybe Dr. Behm would know of some archaeologists. Dr. Spehar knew of an anthro who is a nurse. A zoo trip to Milwaukee would be nice. Maybe when it’s nice out. We talked about finding a way to provide transportation. A movie night again, with more advertising. Maybe an Indiana Jones movie with discussion of what is or is not anthropological in it. A linguistic workshop. Dr. Spehar said that many of her students were interested in linguistics. The most important thing now is to decide on the dates of events. At our next meeting we will vote on these things. It was noted that officer’s need to be at the meetings if they want to vote on these things. The next email to the officers will contain when our next meeting is, the minutes of the previous meeting and our agenda for the next meeting (the items that we will be voting on). Question – How do we include the wants and needs of our members (not officer’s) with all of this? Do we just include them in the events that we plan? Should they have some input in any of the event planning. Do we have any general meetings that aren’t a planned event? |
