Surreal feeling from strolling across the stage
As I walked across the stage Sat. May 15 to receive my “diploma,” a surreal feeling set in as if the world had momentarily paused.
My parents curiously asked me, “Did you hear us yelling and screaming for you? We were so loud!” I remembered nothing of the sort. Silence consumed me except when I shook the Chancellor’s hand and heard him quietly say, “We’re going to miss you, congratulations.”
It’s a moment I’ll never forget and a feeling I wish I could duplicate. Walking back to my seat, my nervousness and anxiety turned into an on-top-of-the-world and accomplished feeling that would permeate the remainder of the afternoon.
I spent the rest of the day surrounded by the most important people in my life, the ones who made my accomplishment possible. I feel I owe my family members and friends an enormous debt – because of the role they played in propelling me forward.
Moving forward I’m currently seeking temporary housing in Chicago as I will start my internship with Burson-Marsteller June 7. I also have graduation parties on consecutive weekends – one this Friday with my Dad’s side of the family and one the weekend after with my Mom’s side of the family and friends.
This may be one of my last blog posts as my tentative last day at integrated marketing and communications will be next Tuesday May 25.
P.S. Any reason why there was no "hat throwing" at the end of the ceremony? I was anxiously awaiting that.

Thanks, Shane!
