Rounding third and heading into the home stretch
I have lots of unknowns at this point, but it's part of the challenge for me to force myself to figure things out and make it work.
Officially I only have seven days of class left. I remember when I was in grade school and I would countdown each and every day from about 100. It always seemed to make things go slower, but not in this situation.
I'm trying to tie up a few loose ends with class projects and tests and I wish a had a few more days!
I recently accepted a 10-week internship at Burson-Marsteller in Chicago, Ill. in their public affairs practice. No it's not a full time or permanent position, but I'm looking for a the best platform to launch a successful career in public relations - and I think starting at a global public relations agency will help me realize my next big move.
I start June 7, the week directly following my best friend's bachelor party (which I'm planning) in the Wisconsin Dells; making things a little interesting. I'm currently searching for temporary housing in Chicago and am excited and very nervous about relocating to a big city, even though it's fairly close to home (New Berlin, Wis.).
In any case, I'm hoping for an eye-opening experience that will paint a picture for the rest of my career.
As one of my last posts as a student, I want to take this opportunity to thank those who have allowed me to have such an amazing experience at the integrated marketing and communications office. The following people also helped me win a national public relations Zenith Award for the "I Chose UWO" multimedia campaign and earn a Chancellor's Award for Excellence.
Thank you to...
Jaime Hunt: You have been a guiding light and are always offering useful knowledge, providing opportunities to further my career and you've ALWAYS had my back (so to speak!) in advocating for the talent you see in me. You are (without a doubt) the best boss I've ever had.
David Williams: You are a wizard with words, Mr. Williams, and you have a true talent for crafting compelling stories, a keen sense of news value and an ever-evolving sense of humor that always has kept me on my toes. You deserve mad props for my growth as a writer and story teller.
Natalie Johnson: Thank you for giving me the opportunity to write for this blog! It's been an excellent way to reflect and I hope you keep it going once I'm gone.
Jeanette De Diemar: You have shown me the ropes of how to be professional, recognized my work and shown me what it takes to be highly successful in a career.
Jaslyn Gilbert: In the short time I've know you, you have been instrumental in teaching me the in's and out's of video production and it has been amazing to see the beautiful art you can produce with a camera.
THANK YOU ALL!
