Vel Phillips
Vel Phillips is a woman with many “firsts”: the first African American woman to graduate from the University of Wisconsin Law School; the first woman and first African American to be elected to the Milwaukee Common Council; the first woman and African American to be a judge in Milwaukee; and the first woman and first African American to be elected to a statewide office.
