Ntozake Shange

Ntozake Shange attended an integrated school in St. Louis from the age of 8 to 13, an experience she credits with educating her about the painful realities of racism in America.  She became a controversial poet, providing poetry that created space for women of color to express themselves.  Shange puts great emphasis on the use of language.  Shange is also a successful playwright.
