Ruth Freiburger
I am the Director of Adult Nontraditional Student Resource (ANSR) office. My job is a fun one - to lead and coordinate a program for adult non-traditional students on our campus. We are here to listen, assist, and advocate for the needs of nontraditional students. I am interested in meeting with students individually, helping via the phone or e-mail, talking to groups and planning programs for skill development, student support and social events. I am also willing to give presentations to professional organizations and media about adult learning opportunities. My career has centered on maximizing higher education opportunities for adults in different academic settings - on and off the college campus. I have directed programs and coordinated services at three other campuses.
Our office staff members are interested in creating awareness of graduate and undergraduate adult learning opportunities. We enjoy working with students, faculty, staff, and administrators on campus and in the community.
Wendy Van Ahn
I am Wendy Van Ahn, Program Assistant for the Adult Nontraditional Student Resource (ANSR) office. My job is to act as a point of contact for the nontraditional student and help manage our office. I enjoy helping students find answers to the questions they have from applying through graduation. Currently, I am continuing my academic career as a UW Oshkosh nontraditional student in the Bachelor of Liberal Studies-Leadership Development program! I truly enjoy the experience of learning, growing and better understanding the life of the nontraditional student. My home is in Oshkosh with my family and I keep very busy with the activities that evolve around my husband and three children. Please stop in to say, "Hi!" and let us know how we can help you!
Katherine Chase
Hi! My name is Katherine Chase, Outreach Specialist for the Graduation Project in the Adult Nontraditional Student Resource (ANSR) Office. I graduated this spring from UW Oshkosh with a Bachelor of Liberal Studies, and am now a graduate student in Educational Leadership. I really enjoy the academic environment and the intellectual challenge at UW Oshkosh. Because I am a nontraditional student myself, I understand the issues facing nontraditional students.
The Graduation Project invites former UW Oshkosh students who stopped out for a time to come back to finish their degree. As the Outreach Specialist for the Graduation Project, I work with these students to get them re-enrolled, get a new academic plan, and get them started on their path to degree completion. If this sounds like you or someone you know, please contact us at the ANSR Office! We’d be happy to help you.
The ANSR Office is set up to assist nontraditional students in navigating the return to school. Please contact us with any concerns, or stop in and let us help you find what you need to be successful at UW Oshkosh.
Connie Omitt
Hi! My name is Connie Omitt, a student mentor with the ANSR Office. I am a transfer student from Nicolet Area Technical College in Rhinelander, majoring in Social Work. I live with my husband in the north woods, near Minocqua and Rhinelander. My family consists of two sons, five grandchildren, and many extended members who are extremely important in my life. Between school, work, family and other activities, most of my days are challenging and very full!
The student mentors in the ANSR Office are here to help fellow students who are returning to school. Please stop in to see us sometime whether you need help or just want to talk. Good luck with your studies!
Paula Verrett
Hello everyone! I am Paula and I am very excited to be serving you in the ANSR office! I have a BS in Special Education from UW-Oshkosh. Currently I am working on prerequisites for my Master's degree in Social Work. When I decided to return to school, I knew exactly where I wanted to go. I am very proud of the education I received at UW-Oshkosh and look forward to learning more from the excellent faculty here.
I enjoy working with people and am excited to meet other nontraditional students. I must warn you, I believe in being honest with people and I expect the same in return. Sometimes this means I tell people things they may not want to hear, but need to hear. I do this because I care and want what is best. I hope you will let me know if there is anything I can do to improve as well!
I am single and have no children so I enjoy borrowing my teenage nephews from my sister on a regular basis. I am the very proud aunt of four nieces, five nephews, two great nephews and one great niece.
Feel free to drop in the ANSR Office and chat. I love to laugh at a good joke and I'm a good listener, if you need to cry! There is a large box of tissues on my desk just in case I laugh so hard I cry!
