Diversity in Journalism Scholarship

$500

Established in 1996 to support the educational advancement of minority students in journalism at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh.

Award

  • Amount: $500

  • Only one scholarship will be awarded

 

Application

 

Requirements

  • Must be a minority as defined by federal affirmative action guidelines (see application form).

  • Must be incoming freshman or a new transfer student.

  • Must have demonstrated intent to pursue a career in journalism through participation in high school, college and/or other news media.

  • Must declare journalism as his or her major, and demonstrate the potential for academic achievement at UW Oshkosh.

  • Must describe in an essay of about 500 words you interest in participating in student media or other news media while at UW Oshkosh in order to enhance you preparation for a career in journalism.

  • Financial need may be considered as a deciding factor after other criteria are met.

 

Selection

The selection committee shall be determined by the Chair of the Department of Journalism, and will consist of two faculty members who teach new-editorial courses and two members from publications that provided financial support for the scholarship

Notification

The award will be announced each spring or summer, and will be available the following semester in which the student enrolls. It will be held at the Cashier’s Office for credit against the semester’s tuition.
