Titan Advantage Program (TAP)
This summer, the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh is offering a special opportunity to incoming freshmen who want a strong start in their college careers. The Titan Advantage Program (TAP) enables students to earn seven credits in just six weeks—June 11 through July 20. Classes are held Monday through Friday.
With its unique combination of workshops, special events, tutoring and advising, TAP is designed for students who may want help with their first college courses or would like a strong start toward their college degree. TAP also offers plenty of activities that help students learn to balance their academic and social lives. First-generation and multicultural students are particularly encouraged to enroll.
Who Can Attend?
Any new freshman who has been accepted as a student at UW Oshkosh and is enrolling for fall 2012 is eligible for the program. The courses taught, along with all of the special services (such as tutoring and advising workshops), can help new freshmen tap their potential for academic success. Students who want a head start or would like some extra help in their first semester are encouraged to apply.
Why Should I Enroll?
TAP provides some important advantages:
- With fewer students on campus in the summer, it's easy to find your way around and make some friends.
- TAP classes are small, which can help you get used to college lectures.
- Tutoring is already built into the summer schedule, and you'll learn how to find help on your own in future semesters.
- TAP helps with the overall transition to college and its academic expectations; that transitional assistance is especially valuable for students who are concerned about how well prepared they are for college work.
- TAP students can finish the summer with seven credits in just six weeks!
- Students will earn credits in summer before any tuition increases in the fall.
Classes
TAP provides students with many opportunities for in-class participation and out-of-class attention from faculty and staff. Students participate as a cohort. No class substitutions are allowed and no classes may be dropped.
TAP students take three classes that count toward graduation:
| Courses Offered | Credits | |
|---|---|---|
|
Communication 111: Fundamentals of Speech Communication |
|
3 |
|
Interdisciplinary Studies 125: Comprehensive Study Skills |

History 201: U.S. History to 1877 |

Cost
TAP students receive a tuition waiver of more than $750, and Wisconsin residents only pay $999 to enroll. In-state tuition and fees normally would cost more than $1,752. (Contact us for non-resident rates.)
Financial aid is available for qualifying students. Students are responsible for purchasing their own textbooks and supplies. Students planning to live on campus for the six-week session will need to pay $625 for a double room or $920 for a single room. (Meal plans are available at an additional cost.) All the extras—such as workshops, tutoring and social events—are free.
Registration
To take part in TAP you must be accepted as a student at UW Oshkosh and plan to enroll for fall 2012. To register for TAP, complete this form by May 1, 2012. The University will enroll you in TAP classes and schedule you for an Odyssey orientation session in May.
