InCommon is a federation of higher education institutions (identity providers) and software service vendors (service providers) which have agreed to adopt and use a set of standards and technologies relating to computing system access management. InCommon members and service providers are vetted and verified by the InCommon organization which increases trust and makes management of login credentials between member organizations easier and more secure. UW Oshkosh has joined InCommon in order to make it safer, easier and more secure to use third-party web based tools including but not limited to CollegiateLink, Zimride and RefWorks which UW Oshkosh provides to its students, faculty and staff. UW Oshkosh uses NetID as our InCommon login credential store. What this all means for our students, faculty and staff is that they need to remember only their NetID login credentials and can then use that same username and password to login to third party web service providers with which UW Oshkosh has contracted.
