Information about fixing slow Windows File Storage drives by changing the Network Provider Order.

How to Change Network Provider Order in Windows 7

  1. Locate and open the Network and Sharing Center in Control Panel:
    • Click the Start button and navigate to Control Panel and then click on Network and Sharing Center.

  2. Click the Change Adapter Settings link on the left.

  3. If you do not have the Menu Bar on the top of the page, follow the instructions below. If you have this Menu Bar proceed to Step 4.
    1. Click Organize in the upper left-hand corner.
    2. Select Layout.
    3. Click on Menu Bar if it is unselected.
  4. Go to the Menu Bar and click on the Advanced tab.
  5. From the drop-down menu, select Advanced Settings.

  6. Click on the Provider Order tab at the top.
  7. Highlight the Microsoft Windows Network and move it to the top of the list using the arrows on the right.

  8. Click OK then close the Network Connections window by clicking the red “X” in the upper right.
