The Compatibility Pack for Office 2003 to Office 2007
This document explains general information about the Microsoft Office 2007 compatibility pack.
In response to complaints about backward compatibility, Microsoft has created a Compatibilty Pack that allows Office 2003 programs to view and edit documents created in Office 2007. As more users upgrade to the newest versions, they may still want to share their work with Legacy users. This overcomes the issue that the default save format in Office 2007 documents is different than that of past applications, and allows for seamless sending and receiving of information.
- First, make sure that the host computer has attained all high-priority Windows Updates recently.
- Go to Microsoft's Download Center and download the Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint 2007 File Formats.
- Install this on the computer and start opening documents made in Office 2007.
- Detailed instructions and troubleshooting help can be found in Microsoft's How to use earlier versions of Excel, PowerPoint, and Word to open and save files from 2007 Office programs knowledge base article.
