TitanCard Pharos Print Station Help for Students

How to use the Titan Card Print Stations located in the General Access labs on campus.

Background Information

On September 30, 2011 all general access computer labs will be converted to Titan Card based print queue log-in to the Pharos print system. This document provides helpful troubleshooting steps to resolve issues with using their Titan Card to print.

TitanCard based printing in the UW Oshkosh computer labs depends requires the newest TitanCard technology, HID iClass.  This technology allows for proximity-based scanning of the TitanCard (used on many residence hall doors) versus the more common swipe technology (used in at most of the TitanCard readers at cash registers around campus).

The newest TitanCard combines both the HID iClass and swipe based technology in one card.

How can I tell if I have an HID iClass card?

Lab printing works only with your most recently issued HID iClass TitanCards. However, it is possible that you might not have an HID iClass TitanCard.

If this logo is not shown on the back of the TitanCard, you should go to TitanCentral to get an updated HID iCLASS-based TitanCard.

NOTE: Upon receiving a new TitanCard, regardless of what TitanCard version you previously possessed, you may need to wait up to 65 minutes before the card will work for printing. The database updates every hour, on the hour so the wait time could be less than 65 minutes.

Most Likely Reasons TitanCard Might Not Work

We have identified the four most likely reasons that a TitanCard might not work with the lab printing system (Pharos).

Reason #1: Old ID Card

How do I identify this issue?

  • No ‘HID’ logo is printed on the back side of the Titan Card

How do I get help?

  • Go to Titan Central for a replacement card. If the TitanCard is a non-HID iCLASS TitanCard, Titan Central will replace the card at no charge.

Reason #2: Malfunctioning HID iClass Chip

How do I identify this issue?

  • Back of TitanCard shows an HID iClass logo.
  • Card does not beep when scanned at printer.
  • Card does not allow access to print jobs.

How do I get help?

  • The HID iCLASS chip may be malfunctioning. Go to Titan Central to have the card tested and replaced if necessary.

Reason #3: Using Old or Not Activated TitanCard

How do I identify this issue?

  1. Back of TitanCard shows HID ICLASS logo
  2. Card beeps when scanned
  3. Card does not allow access to print jobs.
  4. Pharos terminal displays "An internal server error has occurred.   The account could not be found.  Please contact Pharos support."

How do I get help?

You must use your most recently issued TitanCard . If you have lost the newest card you were issued, you should go to TitanCentral to be issued a new card. Only the TitanCard most recently issued will work for lab printing.

OR

If the card has been issued within the last 65 minutes, you must wait until the Pharos ID database updates. The update happens every hour, on the hour (ex. 6am, 7am, 8am, and so on.)

Reason #4: Back-of-House Systems Issue

How do I identify this issue?

  1. Back of TitanCard shows HID iCLASS logo
  2. Card beeps when scanned
  3. Card will not allow access to print jobs
  4. You are certain the card they are using IS the card you were MOST RECENTLY ISSUED
  5. You are certain that MORE THAN 65 minutes have elapsed since the TitanCard you are attempting to use has been issued.
  6. Pharos terminal displays "An internal server error has occurred.   The account could not be found.  Please contact Pharos support."

How do I get help?

  • Provide your information (name, phone and email address) to a Lab Consultant or the Academic Computing Help Desk.
