D2L Outage and Document Viewer Issue -- UPDATE: Issue Resolved

Outage: Wednesday, March 5th from 6:25 AM - 6:35 AM

2nd Update

The document viewer has been up and running for an entire day (I wanted to make sure it was not going to malfunction again before I sent out another email.)

During the initial period of slowness, any items that were added to D2L were not rendered correctly by the system.  The second bout of problems with the document viewer resulted when the UW System Utility reset all the new items.  It slowed down the system some resulting in the second round of slow response time for the document viewer.

Everything should be functioning normally again.

Thank you for your patience as we worked through the problem.

1st Update

We have again received reports that the document viewer is either loading items extremely slowly or not at.  The problem has been reported and our Team at the UW System Utility are working closely with D2L to resolve the problem as quickly as possible.

Once again, items can be downloaded and viewed in their native program while we wait for these issues to be resolved.  I apologize for the continued inconvenience this is causing you and your students.

Original Posting

D2L experienced an unexpected outage Wednesday, March 5th from 6:25 AM - 6:35 AM. Work being done to the Enterprise Storage Solution to resolve some reoccurring slowness affecting several UW System applications hit a snag which resulted in the short outage.  We apologize for the inconvenience it may have caused you or your students.

Another issue was that the Document Viewer in D2L (renders MS Word docs, PDFs, etc directly in D2L) was not be displaying text in a timely fashion.

The work that was being completed has resolved these issues.
