Apple Mavericks OS 10.9 Upgrade

This message is for campus Mac users only.

Apple has just released Mavericks, OS 10.9. And they've announced that it is a free upgrade.

I know many of you are anxious for that upgrade. You may already be downloading it.

I'm writing to ask you to patiently wait TWO DAYS before attempting to upgrade your University-owned Mac. We would like to test the new OS with all of the usual University software, drivers, and network settings. We will start testing tomorrow, Wednesday. We will share the results with you late Thursday or early Friday.

If you want to try the upgrade on your own, please take the time to BACKUP your data, just in case there is a problem during the upgrade.

If you don't want to try it on your own, you can contact the Help Desk ( or 920-424-3020) to request that we do that for you. Your request may have to wait some time, depending on the volume of requests for this and the volume of requests that might be more urgent (computers that don't work).

I am scheduling an update from our Apple Representative on the new OS and the other announcements that Apple made today. I'll keep you informed when I know more.

Thank you for your patience.
