ACUG report recommends migrating email and calendar system to Google Apps

The report states that Google Apps will provide our students, faculty and staff with the best email, calendar and web collaboration tools available.

ACUG's Campus Email/Calendar Recommendation committee unanimously recommends migrating from our current Sun Java Communications Express email and calendaring system to Google Apps for Education. Our recommendation is based upon Google’s unique ability to deliver a web-based, vendor-hosted email, calendar, multi-user voice/video chat and real-time document collaboration suite at no-cost to UW Oshkosh. Google Apps will provide our students, faculty and staff with the best email, calendar and web collaboration tools available and a high level of user familiarity, while enabling them to access these services on their preference of device, how and where they want, whether that be via desktop application, tablet, or mobile phone. Additionally, we expect the move to Google Apps to provide significant cost savings over the long term through the decommissioning of many existing on-campus servers which currently run Sun TitanMail and the alumni email system. There will also be savings in future upgrade and licensing fees to Sun TitanMail, and savings in server staff support and helpdesk support time
