Notes and Information Regarding Device Components
Processor: an electronic circuit that can execute computer programs.
Chipset: a group of integrated circuits, or chips, that are designed to work together.
Memory: a form of computer data storage acts like the short-term memory of the brain.
Hard Drive: a digital data storage device that acts like the long-term memory of the brain. RPM refers to how efficiently the information can be found.
Optical Drive: a disk drive reads or writes data to or from optical discs like DVDs and CDs.
Video/Graphics: generates output images to a display.
Network Card: a computer hardware component that connects a computer to a computer network
Modem: a device that encodes and decodes digital data transmitted by an analog communications system.
Wireless LAN: provides a connection through an access point to the internet, other networks, or devices.
Bluetooth: open wireless technology standard for exchanging data over short distances.
Input: type of cable that is used to connect the monitor to the computer.
Contrast: the difference between the lightest and darkest colors, the larger the better color displaying capabilities.
Brightness: amount of light the monitor can put out.
Tilt-Tilt: amount a monitor can rotate in the forward to back directions.
Height Adjustability Range: amount a monitor can move up and down.
Pivot Rotation: whether or not the monitor can rotate in the left and right directions.
Viewing Angle: maximum angle at which a display can be viewed with acceptable visual performance.
Max Power Rating: a guideline set by the manufacturer as a maximum power to be used with that device.
Native Resolution: number of distinct pixels in each dimension that can be displayed.
Response Rate: the amount of time a pixel in a monitor takes to go from one value to another and back again, smaller number faster the response.
Integrated Speakers: whether or not the monitor has speakers built in.
Anti-Glare/Anti-Static: monitor filters that prevent glare and are grounded to prevent static buildup.
