Betsie is a CGI script provided by Academic Computing. Betsie is capable of analyzing a page and displaying it as a text-only page.
Although the guidelines recommend using a text-only version only after all other attempts at meeting the other guidelines fail, Betsie is useful as a quick solution while working on an accessible version of the page.
Betsie cannot solve every accessibility problem. Frames and tables will not display correctly; alt tags still need to be added; and information cannot be color specific.
One of the best uses of Betsie is as a testing tool. Betsie will show you what users will hear when they listen to your page with a text reader. If your page makes sense as laid out by Betsie, it should make sense when read by a text browser or speech reader.
Betsie can be implemented by adding a link on each page of your
site. Betsie's URL is http://www.acs.uwosh.edu/cgi-bin/parser2.pl/0003/
The URL of your page should follow the /0003/.
If I were writing the main UW Oshkosh webpage (www.uwosh.edu) the Betsie link would be http://www.acs.uwosh.edu/cgi-bin/parser2.pl/0003/www.uwosh.edu
