Announcements |
DV: Introduction of second student member of ACCAA, Dale Meinholz. DV: As per an action item from last meeting, an ACCAA memo has been sent to the Deans (its text was circulated to all ACCAA members by email), along with the general outlines of the Advising Handbook’s recommendations for faculty training. DV: As per earlier announcement, Brian Ledwell will lead a student team to design, load, and launch advising web page for any program that wants one. Template to be ready 2-1-05; material to be received from programs by 4-1-05. Deadline for completion is 5-30-05 as the funds for this project will expire. Discussion ensued about what software will be used for the pages and who will update them; it’s still up in the air, but Brian indicated it was possible he would keep them updated. |
DV will ask Brian to be ACCAA’s guest at the February 05 meeting to update us. LF will check into computer software that can easily update advising web page. Possible Dream Weaver design. |

DV: Progress report on UARC Faculty Training Workgroup. Have not started meeting yet. Linda Amburgy of the UARC is the Workgroup Chair. ACCAA members thus far are David Jones (COLS), Mike Godfrey (COBA), and Susan Cramer (COEHS). PZ was asked to help find Workgroup representation for the CON. |

New Business |
DV: Reviewed summary sheet overviewing TIM. Outlined possible criteria models for switching from UARC advising to Faculty advising, including time, credits, completion of intro to major course. Reiterated program autonomy in deciding these criteria. SC: Provided ACCAA with handout and overview of Admission I and II process in COEHS and how advising currently occurs there. Described preliminary ideas for possible ways to fit TIM. Much discussion about how to identify developmental faculty advising already being done now (e.g. level coordinators, clinical groups, student teaching supervisors) and how to identify COEHS faculty training needs within the existing (and possible new) structure that could benefit from a likely Dean’s grant proposal to DTC for faculty training. LF pointed out that having PA type staff do prescriptive advising will be problematic for accreditation. COEHS has its Personnel Committee working on this, clearly a work in progress. LF: To help ACCAA understand COEHS Personnel
Committee’s efforts, circulated copy of Sept 7 2004 memo from COEHS
Interim Dean Fiedler to Personnel Committee charging it to prepare COEHS
faculty for specific advising activities with a plan by Jan 31 2005. ACCAA will help however it can. PZ: In the last few minutes of the meeting, discussed admissions process to CON, Intro to Nursing course, enrollment pressure of about 1200 students seeking about 170 seats. |
