To best involve your
Department/Program's Faculty & Academic Staff via Faculty Meetings and perhaps
Ad Hoc Committee work, the Advisory Council for Comprehensive Academic
Advising (ACCAA) urges the following Department/Program Action Items by May 1,
2005:
1. Study the Total Intake Model (found at http://www.uwosh.edu/accaa/TIM.htm)
and the Roles and Responsibilities of all advising participants (found at
http://www.uwosh.edu/accaa/2004recommendations.htm) and document what your
Dept/Program is ALREADY DOING that fits.
2. Design Dept/Program-specific adjustments for a better fit.
Tremendous flexibility here. Contact the ACCAA, through me, if you need advice
(vaughan@uwosh.edu). Find out who your Program's assigned UARC liaison person
is, and invite that person to your meeting(s) as a helpful partner in the
transition. The UARC is also actively preparing Faculty/Academic Staff
Advisor "training" programs to assist Depts/Programs in any way possible, so
UARC Director Lynn Freeman is also a resource (freemanl@uwosh.edu). Academic
advising benefits from professional research that records "best practices", so
that no one should feel the need to "reinvent the wheel".
3. Document your Dept/Program’s completed TIM advising policies (Word.doc
file) and send to
freemanl@uwosh.edu and
Vaughan@uwosh.edu. Lynn Freeman and I are in charge of creating the report
to the Provost and for the next accreditation, so we need this information.
4. Advertise your Dept/Programs TIM advising policies to students.
Toward this end, all Depts/Programs are offered an advising web page by Brian
Ledwell of the IDEA Lab. Study the content areas for the web page (see reverse
side of this sheet) and provide that information as a Word.doc file to Brian at
ledwell@uwosh.edu. Note: Brian is putting a page together for Criminal
Justice first; we will publicize the URL when it’s ready so that you have an
example to help you visualize yours. Note: these web pages will also be
reference sites for Faculty/Staff advisors, providing helpful links for their
needs, too. SEE BELOW FOR RECOMMENDED CONTENT
5. Communicate important advising information about your Program to
your Program’s UARC liaison, who will communicate it to all pertinent UARC
advisors. The conversations between Depts/Programs and UARC liaisons are
expected to be ongoing and mutually beneficial!
