| The Peer Mentoring Program is designed to
provide a positive transition to the university for first
year and transfer students. Participants are chosen from
those students who are eligible for Student Support Services
and/or Mulitcultural Retention Programs. Peer mentoring
promotes retention, provides opportunities that encourage
academic success, and fosters a sense of belonging to the
university community. |
 |
Students who have achieved academic success and have demonstrated
strong leadership and communication skills serve as Mentors.
Mentors encourage active involvement in university activities
and organizations; serve as positive role models for Mentees,
and share experiences and knowledge they have gained as a student
at UW Oshkosh. Mentors provide support, encouragement, information
and guidance to assist Mentees in achieving their goals. Mentees
have the opportunity to expand their own leadership skills,
increase self-esteem, and strengthen their personal, social,
cultural and academic development. Mentors and Mentees interact
in an unstructured environment during the academic year, and
come together for planned activities throughout each semester.
Students interested in the Peer Mentoring Program are invited
to complete an application and meet with program coordinators.
