Multicultural Retention Programs

Multicultural Retention Programs (MRP) provides professional student support services to improve the recruitment, retention and graduation of multicultural and disadvantaged (M/D) students at UW Oshkosh. MRP endeavors to close the gap in educational achievement by bringing retention and graduation rates for M/D students in line with those of the student body as a whole. This is accomplished by offering a multi-faceted culturally and academically responsive programs and services to effectively serve M/D students.

The highlights of these programs include personal and career counseling, advising, tutoring (math and writing), academic progress monitoring and academic intervention. An array of programs and services ranging from student development series, first-year student forums to graduate school workshops are offered during the academic year to increase retention of M/D students.

MRP counselors also advise multicultural student organizations and staff the Multicultural Education Center (MEC) throughout the academic year. With the guidance and assistance of MRP advisors, student organizations engage in leadership development process and plan and implement socio-cultural, educational and recreational programs and activities to help increase the level of cultural understanding and appreciation in the campus community. MRP staff work closely with faculty, staff and community members who are interested in improving cross-cultural relations and understanding cultural differences.
