History:A version of this committee has existed at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh since the Spring of 1994. The main activities of the group have been the planning and implementation of Students, Staff, and Faculty for Equality (S.A.F.E.) training, and the planning and celebration of Bisexual, Gay, Lesbian Awareness Days (BGLAD week). The first S.A.F.E. training session occurred in the Fall of 1994 and was attended by 40 faculty and staff members; two more S.A.F.E. training sessions were held in the Spring of 1995 during which 18 additional people participated.
The first S.A.F.E. training for Community Advisors (CA) and other student leaders took place during 1998-1999.
As of Spring 2004 this group has educated over 400 University of Wisconsin Oshkosh community members via the S.A.F.E. training workshop. Many workshop attendees who choose to be LBGTQ allies display their support by posting a pink or purple triangle.
