The LBGTQ Council has been offering Students,
Staff, Faculty for Equality (S.A.F.E.) Training at UW Oshkosh since 1994 in
order to educate members of the UW Oshkosh community. Typically S.A.F.E. trainings
are held atleast twice each academic year, once in the fall during Coming
OUT week and again in the spring for Bisexual, Gay, Lesbian, Awarness Days
(BGLAD) Week.
Separate S.A.F.E. training sessions are run
for faculty/staff, students, and community members each semester. The 2-hour
workshop includes discussion of the perception of lesbians and gays, the unique
challenges faced by LBGTQ people on campus and in society, and strategies
for becoming a heterosexual ally. Most sesssions include a panel of UWO LBGTQ
students and heterosexual student allies. Participants who choose to be LBGTQ
allies receive a S.A.F.E. triangle decal. Please contact the LBGTQ Council
if your group would be interested in a training session.
