Parent PLUS Loan Processing

If this is the first time you are borrowing PLUS loan at UW Oshkosh for a specific student, then continue as outlined in these instructions. In order to qualify for a Parent PLUS loan, students and parents must file the FAFSA and be awarded a PLUS loan on the financial aid award. Financial aid awards are available to the student online through TitanWeb. The PLUS amount offered on the financial aid award is the maximum amount that can be borrowed for the academic year.
The PLUS program is designed for the parents of dependent students to help pay for the cost of education. This loan is borrowed in the parent’s name and cannot be transferred to the student. The loan is typically disbursed twice during an academic year (fall and spring semesters). Repayment of the PLUS loan begins 60 days after the loan is fully disbursed. The PLUS loan has a fixed interest rate of 8.5%.
Parents must be approved for the PLUS loan through a credit approval process. Once you are approved, you will be prompted to complete a Master Promissory Note (MPN). Please see the list below for information you will be asked to provide to complete this process, then click on First-time PLUS Borrowers button to begin the process.

- Cannot use student as a reference
- Known you for at least three years
- Citizenship status (alien registration number if applicable)
- Loan amount

- Lender – Please refer to your past year's Disclosure Statement * for your previous lender code.
* Disclosure Statement provides the borrower with information about the actual cost of the loan, including the interest rate, origination, insurance, loan fees and any other types of finance charges. Lenders are required to provide the borrower with a disclosure statement before issuing a loan.
