Alternative Loans

Students and Parents are strongly encouraged to explore all sources of financial aid funding (federal and state aid programs, university and private scholarship programs), prior to considering private student loans. Please contact the Financial Aid Office to determine your options prior to applying.

Private Loan Lender Information: You can find lender information on the Wisconsin Association of Financial Aid Administrators web site (WASFAA). The website provides a list of lenders offering alternative loan programs (click here). Please note: The lists are not exhaustive. Online searches, checking with your local bank or other financial services organizations, will identify more lenders. The lists are only for reference and should not be construed as an endorsement. Compare interest rates, fees, and benefits to identify the most competitive options for your financial needs.

Glossary of Loan Terms: Under the Loan Glossary section, you will discover terms and their meanings relating to private student loan borrowing. These terms provide you with a better level of understanding while you are researching and discussing school financing options.

Interest Rate Information (Prime, LIBOR): Interest rates are stated for each institution in terms of the U.S. Prime rate or the European LIBOR rate. You can find links to the current rates from the WASFAA page. Please direct specific questions regarding borrowing terms to the lenders' representatives.
